Now that we’re back from break and all settled into our daily school routines again, the next spring sports season is here, and is yet another great chance to become involved.
Spring sports here at Poston Butte include softball, baseball, track and field, boy’s volleyball, and boy’s and girl’s tennis. This time of year is just one of the many ways to become involved in the school atmosphere, as well as another chance to try something new. Being athletically involved is not only positively impactful to your physical health, but your social health as well.
The social aspect of being part of a team is just one of the positive outcomes from playing a sport. Meeting new people and/or being a returning team member is never a bad experience. Speaking of experience, being on the girl’s tennis team for the last two years and returning this year will always remain one of the most memorable and cherished times of my high school career.
Elaina Adams (sophomore), a returning track runner, said, “Track is the kind of sport where you bond with your event teammates. You meet really nice people. Especially if you are a distance runner, you and your small group become a very close-knit group.”
Going to practice is something every student can look forward to; whether you enjoy challenging yourself every day, or simply find happiness knowing you are part of a team that you can count on. Athletes often find their sports as an outlet for stress or other issues they may be going through, and it can be very helpful for students to have that kind of support, where they may not have it in another place.
Adams also states, “Your coaches will push you to strive to do your best. If there is a problem, you know you can always talk to someone on the team, even if you aren’t super close. Even if you are not the best on the team, you are always cheered on to improve and become your best.”
So if you’re looking to try something new, challenge yourself, or simply have fun working together with others, then don’t forget to try out for a spring sport! The spring sports season starts off in the beginning of February, so get your physicals done and get out there!
